Elysian Park & A Study in Body Language

Dear Kara:
I'm sooooo looking forward to your and Tim's visit! One of the things I want to do is take you on this walk around/ through Elysian Park. It's this amazing mix of city and nature. Can you see the freeway in the above photo?

Mavis and I went yesterday, and about ten minutes into the fifty minute loop, she started doing the below. When I went to pick her up, she rolled over onto her back. (Sadly, I couldn't snap a photo of this.)
The rest of the walk was spent in a 70/30 mix of me carrying her in both arms, clutched to my chest, and her sprinting toward the shady patches where she would promptly take a seat.
Perhaps another veiled lesson in listening to what our bodies are telling us / making time for rest?

With lots of L.A. love,
Amelia

Dearest Amelia

I love the name of that park!  I thought there was a Sting song of a similar name, but after minutes on the internet, realize I was just doing that thing I do: think every thing in the world is related to Sting somehow.

Your cute little pup!  Whom I can't wait to meet.  Should I bring her organic dog treats, or a lavender coat spritz?  I so want to impress her.  Really hope it goes well...

I will also be naming a future child, A Study in Body Language.  Maybe it is more fitting for a class or a group of essays.  Still, it is such a luscious title.  I hope to use it soon.  Does it work as an email subject line, do you think?

I'll report back.

Also, thank you for the taste of L.A. fall!  And for heeding the lessons of your dog.  You're showing real promise as a dog owner.  I'll have Bear send along the rest of his tips, but let's just say, he gave you an 89% when he read this post.

He's really thorough.  Here he is checking PVC amounts in my yoga mat.

Just so you know, 89% is really high for Bear.  He's a tough, exacting judge. Just ask anyone, except the folks at the boarding hotel.  For some reason, he ranks their turn-down service higher than ours at home.

Saturday, sunny, and it (already freaking) snowed this morning,
Love love
Kara
